My Gingham Blanket is Done!

Whew! That took a while! I've been knitting this particular WIP since January, and I actually hadn't touched it in more than a month (you can see my last progress post here). I've been distracted by our Tokyo trip, finishing up my original design, working on some SALs...etc. But it's all done now, and I get to do my little finishing dance. Here it is:

I just added the fifth strip to the end. This is 50 inches long and 40 inches wide. Not huge, but a great size for a lap blanket or a couch throw. The three strips are knitted with Red Heart's Super Saver in Burgundy and their Super Saver in Cherry Chip. The two strips in between are knitted with their Super Saver in Buff and their Cherry Chip again. I was inspired by a Martha Stewart design you can see here, but I've adapted it a lot to suit the colors I wanted, the yarn, and the size.

Well, there it is! I'm actually going to miss working on this. It was so soothing to just watch TV and let your fingers do exactly the same motion again and again and again... I guess I'll have to find a new knitting project!

Lots of love,

Simplicity Sheep Update 6

Happy Sunday! I'm typing this while DH sits next to me yelling at a football game on TV. Chelsea/Arsenal? I know nothing about the game (just glanced up now to see the names in the corner) but it amuses me when he yells, so I hang around.

Well, it is Sunday, so time for the LHN Little Sheep Virtues SAL update. I believe I've caught up to Lija by now! Here's what Simplicity looks like today:

This is 1200 stitches. I've finished the border (FINALLY!) and have started stitching the sheep in the middle.

Wanted to thank you all so much for all your beautiful support on my original design finish last week. I appreciate it more than I can say!! It's lovely to get praise on a regular finish, but so much anxiety and planning and frogging and head-scratching went into this one. I was hesitating to even share it with the blogosphere in the first place! It's so gratifying to know you've made something other people actually like. So grateful for all your support!

Big hugs,

What I've Been Stitching (4th - and last! - edition)

Wow, I haven't posted an update on this piece in a while! It's been nearly two months. And that's plenty of time to do some serious stitching, but there was very little left to do. You can see my last update on it here. And this is what it looks like now, all finished!

I was struggling to figure out what to stitch in the empty space over the sheep. Finally I settled on a flowering vine, using the same colors for the leaves and the flowers of the border along the top of the design.

I've already given it a nice bath and an iron, though it's still looking really wrinkly in these pictures. Definitely needs another date with the steamer!

Well, it's all done now. I'm so happy with the way it turned out! This has been such a labor of love for me, growing and changing for the last four months. I'm in no hurry to start another original, but you never know!

Happy xxx's,

Simplicity Sheep Update 5

Hi everyone! I'm writing this at the end of a long day. I wasted most of my morning waiting for a delivery (why can't delivery men come when they say they're going to come?), then I had to drop DH off at the airport (business trip to Lebanon for the week), then I went to work for an afternoon class, came back home, did some yoga, showered, made myself some dinner, did some knitting, Skyped with DH, and now here I am!

It's Sunday, so time for the LHN Little Sheep Virtues SAL update. Lija is almost done with her Simplicity, and I have no hope of catching up the way my days are. Anyway, here's my Simplicity:

I'm at 1000 stitches now. I've finished most of the border, and now I'm just filling in the white bit. And then I've got the sheep to stitch!

Well, I'm off to read a bit, and then I'm crashing. It's already 11:30 pm here...

Lots of love,

The April Gifted Gorgeousness SAL

How are we halfway through April already?! That was way too fast. The temperatures are already in the 30s (that's Celsius), which is scary - I can't imagine what this summer is going to be like.

Well, reluctant as I am to admit it, it's the 15th of April, which means it's time for the Gifted Gorgeousness SAL April edition! This is Jo from Serendipitous Stitching's baby - we stitch on something that's been gifted to us through exchanges or giveaways, whether a pattern, kit, fabric, floss, whatever, and post on the 15th of the month (because it's 2015).

Last month I started Prairie Schooler's Two By Two, gifted to me last year in an exchange with Emma from Emma's Bloglet (you can see my start here). Here's my update this month:

I'm at 800 stitches, and I've nearly finished the middle bit of the ark. The colors aren't too exciting at this point, I know, but I'll get to the interesting part soon.

Can't wait to come around and see your Gifted Gorgeousnesses!

Big hugs,

Simplicity Sheep Update 4

Lots of thanks to everyone, first of all! My cold has gone away completely. It hung around just along enough to annoy me, to irritate my throat and block my nose, but it's all good now. I appreciate all your lovely well-wishes!

Well, it's Sunday, which means our Little Sheep Virtues SAL update. Lija has pulled way ahead of me - she's almost done with her Simplicity! Here's mine:

This is 800 stitches now. I've finished most of the border along the top and the left side (still missing the white stripe in the middle), and have started the bottom border.

So close now! Just the rest of the border to do and the sheep itself (which is my favorite part!) We're just zipping through this one! Feels like we just started it, really...

Happy xxx's!

Another Lovely Exchange with Lija

Lija (from Stitching in Crosses and More) and I decided to have another exchange this year. I sent off her package before I went on vacation, and by the time I came back hers was in the mailbox waiting for me! So, first, this is what I sent her:

I know how much she likes biscornus, and so I made her this one. It's a freebie pattern you can find here. I stitched it with the recommended DMC colors on rustic, oatmeal-colored 14-count Aida. I finished it off with some nice black-and-silver buttons.

I also sent her the March 2015 issue of Cross-Stitcher magazine, a scissor fob, some GAST and DMC floss, some antique wooden spools, a selection of teas, and a Dubai thimble.

And this is what Lija sent me:

Isn't it just perfect?! I love sheep! And the finishing is gorgeous. I'm going to need to find a special spot to hang it. She also sent me:

Some felt, ric-rac, Anchor threads, a notebook, eraser, ruler, sharpener, and a beautiful card.

Thank you so much, Lija! Can't wait to have another exchange with you!

Lots of love,

Simplicity Sheep Update 3

Hi everyone! I'm back! We spent the last two weeks in Japan, visiting my in-laws. Tokyo was amazing! It's one of my new favorite cities. Everything is so clean, and so orderly, and everyone is so lovely and polite. I've barely had time to recover from the trip, though, and I seem to have caught a bit of a cold, so even typing this paragraph has taken me twice as long as it should!

Well, it's Sunday, which means an update on the Little Sheep Virtues SAL. I actually took it with me on the trip and managed to make progress when we had some quiet time. Lija is way ahead of me by now, but it's all good. Here is my Simplicity:

I'm at 600 stitches by now. I've finished the word "Simplicity" along the bottom and started the top border.

That's all for now. I'm off to shower and clean up the apartment a little. I've already managed to do five loads of laundry since we landed on Friday, but there's a few things I still need to tidy up. And vacuum. And mop. Urgh, I hate mopping...

Big hugs,
