Precious Stitching Time

Still stitching away on Falling Star. Still loving it! Here's my progress so far:

Again, forgive the bad quality. It's been cloudy, but I'm pretty sure that, for all intents and purposes, winter is over. Temperatures are already climbing, and in a month or two it'll start getting too hot to be outside. Sigh. Well, it was nice while it lasted!

My mother-in-law arrived a couple of nights ago. She'll be staying with my sister-in-law, who's single and thus has more space than we do, but I'm already feeling the effects: visits before and after work, plans that have to be rethought, and a general feeling of urgency. She'll be visiting for the next month or more, so I'm not sure how much stitching time I'll be able to get in.

See you when I see you!

Eating and Stitching, Stitching and Eating

More progress on La D Da's Falling Star, which I'm loving!

I stitched a couple more stars, and added the words "for a." Not much, I know, but I've been secret stitching for Mii's Easter Egg-change. And it's not the best picture in the world - it's been cloudy lately and artificial light can only do so much. Oh well... I do love that the stars look like they're dancing!

We headed out early Friday morning (Friday and Saturday are the weekend days for us) for an organic market at one of the parks.

It was so much fun! I didn't get a chance to take pictures of all the booths, because it was so crowded. There was a little petting zoo and face painting for the kids, booths selling homemade soaps, arts and crafts, fresh flowers, bread, jams, sauces, cupcakes... Everyone was walking around eating BBQ or salads or wraps or drinking water out of a fresh coconut. The main booths were selling produce, so you would grab a cardboard box and move through the line, filling it with whatever organic fruits or vegetables you wanted.

But I was with my husband, whose entire philosophy was, I'll just go with you this once to scope it out and then you can come back another time to actually shop. After the fastest tour ever, I managed to buy only a couple of things:

I bought a lovely fresh loaf of bread (I LOVE fresh bread) and a jar of delicious strawberry-peach jam. And they gave us the bag for free!

Great to know these little places exist here! I enjoyed it so much and I'll definitely be going back (though probably without the husband...)

Big hugs,

A Long-Awaited New Start

I'm finally starting La D Da's Falling Star!

I say "finally" because I bought the chart more than a year ago along with Down by the Bay, which I've already finished. I couldn't start on Falling Star because I realized the fabric I'd bought for it was way too dark and I couldn't see the threads against it. But the replacement fabric arrived a couple of weeks ago, so we're good to go! Here's my little start:

I'm stitching this on 32-count Platinum Lugana with the recommended NPI silks. It's so much fun! I'm loving it already.

Big hugs,

Compromises and Finishes

Bent Creek's Land of Liberty is done!

I said in my last post that the kit hadn't included enough of the dark green DMC 935 and that I'd run out. Well, I couldn't find any pearl cotton at my LNS, and I didn't think ordering it internationally would be warranted for the missing green vine on the right, so I just substituted six strands of normal cotton DMC. What do you think?

I think it worked perfectly! You really can't see a difference. I know it's different, and I can only tell if I put it right up to my face. Anyway, I had a lot of fun with this kit! It's such a breeze to stitch up. Now to figure out how to finish it...

Many xxx's,

Nearly Done, But a Small Hiccup

Thanks for all your sympathies about my allergies! It's insane how easily they take over my life. Anyway, I finally got my prescription refilled a couple of days ago, so the sneezing and itching should ease away now. Yay!

I've managed to get some more stitching done on Land of Liberty. Here it was yesterday:

And here it is today:

I was so happy with this kit. The piece of fabric provided is much bigger than needed and for a while it seemed like they'd provided extra strands of thread. Until the inevitable happened: I ran out of DMC 935. And the problem is this is all with pearl cotton, which I don't think my LNS carries. I'm going to have to make a trip there this week.

Happy xxx's!

Itching, Sneezing, Stitching

Hey everyone! Hope you're all doing well. I just popped in real quick to give an update on Land of Liberty. Now that the banner is finished, I started on the birds. Here it was yesterday:

And here it is now:

Again, super easy stitching. I love seeing it progress and I wish I could spend more time on it, but I've been so distracted by so many little things lately. My allergies seem to be getting worse the older I get. Last year around this time (beginning of spring) I went to a specialist and got my blood tested and all that. He gave me a list of my allergens and prescribed me medication, including a daily nasal spray and an inhaler.

Well, they've both run out by now and I've been meaning to get new ones, but my insurance card expired too. Urgh! Anyway, everything's sorted out now so I'm hoping to pop by the hospital tonight. It's no fun waking up every day and sneezing continually for the following few hours.

A Little Progress, a Little Beauty

A while ago I posted a new start, Bent Creek's Land of Liberty Zipper. Things have been hectic and busy around here, but I have managed to make progress since you last saw it! Here it was yesterday:

And here it is today:

It's actually a really fast stitch, with the thick pearl cotton provided, but I've had barely any time to work on it. Between chores, errands, and the job, I'm running a little ragged. We did have the chance to check out a new attraction here in Dubai this weekend, though - the Miracle Garden. I really just expected some nicely landscaped flowers, but it was so much more! Here are some of my favorite pictures:

Thank you all so much for your continuing kindness! You have no idea how it picks me up sometimes. :D

Lots of love,

Just a Little Stashin'

It's been a crazy busy week for me, so I haven't gotten much done by way of stitching, except for secret stitching for exchanges and such. But I do have some new stash to report!

First, I received a lovely little package from 1-2-3 Stitch full of things to kit up a few of my charts. I ordered some 32 ct. Platinum Lugana for La-D-Da's Catch a Falling Star. I had ordered the Dark Cobblestone Lugana about a year ago when I bought the chart, but it turned out to be way too dark for the floss colors so I've been using it for other little projects.

The 32 ct. Lambswool Jobelan is for Prairie Schooler's Fables & Tales, though I have no idea when I'll get around to stitching this, as I have so many projects in the works.

The little pea button is for The Cross-Eyed Cricket's The Princess and the Pea, which I completely forgot to include when I bought the chart. And the sweet little love scissors are for...well, you can never have enough scissors, right?

Next, this gorgeous book I found at the bookstore. This is Last-Minute Patchwork + Quilted Gifts by Joelle Hoverson, and it's packed with the most adorable projects. Now, I've always had a love for anything quilted, but I've never actually done any patchwork or quilting. I'm hoping this will be an easy way to start!

So that's it! Not much, I know, but I'm just happy to kit up the charts I've got lined up. Hoping to start making a dent in them soon...

Lots of xxx love,
