Quilt Square 30

Now that my thread is all neatly bobbinated, I've gotten some last bit of progress done on the American Flag Quilt for this round. I'm really happy about how it's looking so far. I can't wait to finish it off, have it framed, and find a sweet spot to hang it up. But I think that's still pretty far off. One step at a time!

This quilt square is for Texas, the Lone Star State, the 28th state to join the union, on December 29, 1845.

I'm going to put this aside for a little while. I've got a few pieces waiting to be finished off, so I'm switching gears, swapping the DMC for fabric swatches and ribbon bits.

See you all on the other side!

Quilt Square 29

More progress on the American Flag Quilt! I'm so happy that I've managed to carve out some stitching time. It's been super hectic around here, what with the start of a new semester, getting things back to normal after our trip, and my mother-in-law being in town for the past few weeks. I feel emotionally drained most days, but stitching time is my alone time, and it feels great to have an hour or so to myself at the end of the day.

Anyway, this is the latest square, Florida!

The Sunshine State is the 27th, joining the union on March 3, 1845. I really like this pattern. It seems happy, doesn't it?

Lots of love,

Quilt Square 28

Back to the American Flag Quilt! I've missed this piece so much, and it feels so good to pick it up again. Literally, too, because I just love this piece of Jazlyn I'm stitching it on, especially compared to all the Aida I've been using recently.

This latest block is Michigan, the 26th state (we're past the halfway mark!), also known as the Great Lakes State. It was admitted into the union on January 26, 1837.

I really like the design for this block. It was a breeze to stitch, too. I'm going to be working on this piece for a little while longer before I move on to some finishing work.

Hope your WIPs are going swimmingly!

Red, White, and Blue (and Some Other Stuff)

Sorry I've been kind of quiet on the blogosphere. I'm slowly catching up on laundry, groceries, and cleaning, not to mention starting a new semester with new students and having my mother-in-law in town. Yep, busy busy busy.

I have been trying to catch to everyone's blog posts, and there seem to be a lot of giveaways going on these days. Mii at Mii Stitch is having a Valentine's Day Giveaway that's wrapping up soon (you can enter here), Melissa at St. John's Stitcher is having a Birthday/200 Follower Giveaway (you can enter here), and McKenna at Chic Crafting is having her February Giveaway (you can enter here). Lots of awesome goodies to be won!

On to some stitchy progress: I knitted this scarf up a while ago for my sister's birthday, but I wanted to wait until she got it before I posted about it. I think I've decided to try to make a scarf for each of my sisters (I have three) for their birthdays this year.

I used this fantastic Peaches & Creme yarn called Stars and Stripes that I picked up when I was in the States last summer. I LOVE the texture and consistency of this yarn. It lends itself so well to knitting. I might just go online and order a bunch of it in different colors.

This scarf is 30 stitches across. I used two balls of yarn to knit it, with 5mm knitting needles, and it ended up at 34 inches long - a little short, but I think it'll suit my sister.

I also came back to a welcoming sight at the post office: a package from 1-2-3 Stitch! Yep, I went on a little bit of a shopping spree before I left, and here's what I got:

I love it all so much! I got two La D Da charts (A Falling Star and Down By the Bay) and some fabric for each (32 count Lugana in Ivory and Dark Cobblestone). These are going to be the first La D Da designs I've ever stitched, as well as the smallest count fabric I've ever stitched on. I'm so excited! Of course, I refuse to allow myself to start until I've finished my big WIP, the American Flag Quilt, which I can't wait to get back to!

It's good to be back!

Giveaway Draw!

I'm back! And I had the best time on what I'm calling our "Winter Wonderland Tour." As soon as I get unpacked, get through the massive piles of laundry, and generally tidy everything up, I'll definitely put up pictures :D

Onto more important business: the giveaway draw! I cut up little bits of paper with the names of everyone who entered, tossed them into a bowl, and recruited my husband to help with the drawing of the names.

The winners are...
For the first package...

Lija Broka from Stitching in Crosses and More!

For the second package...

 Kaye from Kitten Stitching!

Congratulations to you lovely ladies! I'll be contacting you for your mailing addresses, and I'll take the packages to the post office soon thereafer :D

To everybody: thank you so much for participating in my giveaway. I love you all lots, and I promise I'll catch up on your blogs (and check out the blogs of all my newcomers) as soon as I get my life straightened out. Big hugs to all!
